Executive Director of Research Cost Management
Overview
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte seeks an experienced professional to direct the Office of Research Cost Management. The Executive Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Federal Relations and oversees three units: Award Management, Cost Analysis, and Compliance and Control.
UNC Charlotte is the only research university in an exciting and dynamic urban region of 1.8 million people and is growing at a rapid rate. The University currently enrolls 25,000 students and employs more than 1,000 faculty in the Colleges of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Arts & Architecture, Business Administration, Computing & Informatics, Education, Engineering, and Health & Human Services. Doctoral degrees are offered in 18 disciplines. Research expenditures are about $35 million, with 60 percent federal and 20 percent private industry funding. UNC Charlotte is also the only university in North Carolina with a DOD facility security clearance.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field and at least six years of relevant, progressively responsible university experience. The position requires a broad and thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, federal requirements for the administration of sponsored projects, experience negotiating F&A and fringe benefit rates with a federal cognizant agency, and experience with automated accounting systems. Also required are strong interpersonal and communication skills and superior managerial skills.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of sponsored programs accounting, cash management, and financial compliance. This position will review contractual agreements for legal and financial constraints and restrictions, negotiate and clarify unfavorable or ambiguous contract clauses, counsel and advise Principal Investigators as needed, provide training opportunities for the campus community on relevant topics, and stay abreast of federal accounting requirements while establishing procedures for prudent sponsored grants and contracts financial management. The Executive Director will work closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs and the General Counsel.
