Grants & Agreements Specialist

Overview

Sponsored Projects Administration, Portland State University

Portland State University is recruiting two Grants & Agreements Specialists to join the Award Acceptance team within Sponsored Projects Administration.

This position combines responsibilities previously divided between grants and agreements roles. Specialists review, negotiate, draft, and accept sponsored awards and research agreements; draft and execute outgoing subawards; and document award requirements needed for effective institutional stewardship and administration. The portfolio includes projects supported by federal, state and local government, nonprofit, industry, and other sponsors.

We are looking for professionals who think critically about award and agreement requirements rather than simply applying standard language or moving documents through a process. Strong candidates will be curious about why a requirement or provision is included, whether it applies to the circumstances, and how it should be addressed based on the funding, work, parties, and institutional responsibilities involved.

Grants & Agreements Specialists serve as Authorized Organizational Representatives and Institutional Signing Officials, with delegated authority to execute authorized sponsored project documents on behalf of PSU. This is an opportunity for an early- or mid-career research administration professional, or someone with relevant transferable experience, to develop broader expertise across grants, contracts, research agreements, subawards, and award administration. The successful candidates will join a collaborative team that is actively strengthening its practices and tools and values thoughtful questions, sound judgment, and practical solutions.

A bachelor’s degree and two to four years of related professional experience are required. A relevant advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement. Relevant experience may come from sponsored projects or research administration, contract administration, grants management, compliance, or another role involving the interpretation or administration of complex awards and agreements.

The annual salary range is $64,000 - $70,000. PSU offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and retirement benefits, generous paid leave, and tuition benefits for eligible employees and family members.

These positions are based at PSU’s downtown Portland campus and require on-campus work at least four days per week. Applicants must reside in Oregon or Washington, within reasonable commuting distance to downtown Portland. Limited remote work, typically one day per week, may be available consistent with university policy and operational needs.
