Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics

Overview

Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics

Durham, North Carolina

Duke University seeks a visionary, collaborative leader to serve as its next Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics (“AVP”), offering an exceptional opportunity to shape how one of the world’s leading research universities uses data and insight to inform its most consequential decisions. The AVP will advance institutional research and strategic analytics at a university with $1.5 billion in total research expenditures and approximately 6,500 undergraduate and 10,950 graduate and professional students. The next AVP will help translate that scale and complexity into meaningful analysis that supports university planning and decision-making.

As Duke invests in a university-wide data warehouse, the AVP will help shape an integrated approach to institutional research and strategic analytics. Working across schools and administrative units, the AVP will strengthen data governance, improve access to consistent information, and expand the University’s analytical capabilities. Central to this work will be building partnerships that connect institutional analysis with the questions and priorities facing university leaders. The AVP will position Institutional Research as a trusted partner that not only provides reliable information but also helps leaders interpret findings and use them to inform decisions.

The successful candidate will combine strategic vision with effective execution and a collaborative approach to leadership. The AVP will build trust and alignment in Duke’s decentralized environment, navigating complex data governance issues and institutional priorities while establishing shared approaches across schools and administrative units. Leading and developing an experienced team, the AVP will modernize operations, strengthen the office’s capacity, and connect its work more closely to university needs. This leader will bring the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, useful insights and to work with colleagues to turn those insights into action.
