Assistant Dean, Research Operations



Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Research, the Assistant Dean for Research Operations will oversee all administrative operations and strategies and systems that support the research of Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). This position will lead a diverse and complex set of research business operations, including a portfolio of approximately $490M in total costs, a large operations team, and oversight of centralized clinical trial operations. The goal of the position is to ensure the functionality of research at the college to support and drive sustainable growth and a balanced research portfolio. The Assistant Dean is a member of the senior leadership team and works collaboratively to advance the missions of the institution. This position will also have an indirect reporting relationship to the Executive Vice Provost/COO of Weill Cornell Medicine.

In the next Assistant Dean, Research Operations, Weill Cornell Medicine seeks a seasoned administrator with expertise in the processes, compliance, finances, and management of foundational research, clinical trials operations, and research facilities. An in-depth understanding of research guidelines, technology/systems, and best practices in research portfolio management is expected. As a thought partner to senior leadership, the Assistant Dean should also be an effective communicator, a strategic thinker, and able to contribute to larger institutional goals. As part of the research leadership team, the Assistant Dean will oversee a high-performing team and lead in manner that reflects inclusivity, resource (both human and financial) stewardship, and a deep commitment to Weill Cornell Medicine's mission and values.

Experience

• Seven to 10 years of relevant experience in research administration at an academic institution, government agency or other relevant organization preferred.
• Research operations experience should include strategic initiative development, systems planning, change management, financial and information management, complex project management and demonstrated leadership skills.
• Experience with policies and processes and regulatory requirements associated with the development, implementation and administration of multi-site or large-scale grants, contracts and clinical studies.
• Experience representing an organization as a principal spokesperson.
• Experience in business and management computer applications and databases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated leadership, planning and change management skills.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, troubleshoot, think creatively and resolve conflicts.
• Advanced financial skills in accounting, budget planning and financial forecasting.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Advanced expertise in contract and grant administration.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail and accuracy.
