The Olive View-UCLA Education & Research Institute (ERI), located at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, one of the premier healthcare delivery systems in the north San Fernando Valley, invites inquiries, applications, and nominations for the position of Executive Director. Under the direction of the ERI Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will have a broad range of responsibilities, including administrative support to professional staff involved in medical research at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. The Executive Director will engage, lead, and energize the scientific community of the ERI to build new initiatives and collaborations across and outside the institution.
The ERI is a contracted, non-profit organization that is responsible for overseeing and managing the research enterprise at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, a hospital run by the County of Los Angeles and a major teaching institution for UCLA. The ERI fosters scientific contributions while supporting research and educational needs within the hospital system, allowing physicians and medical staff to engage in medical research through federal, industry, and/or non-profit funded research and clinical trials. The ERI oversees all research conducted at Olive-View UCLA Medical Center, which offers a unique opportunity for impactful inclusion of patients from minorities and underserved communities in often practice-defining clinical studies. The majority of the ERI’s grant portfolio is focused on advancing health care among underserved populations.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and accomplished leader who is passionate about driving impactful, community-engaged research to expand the Institute’s impact and champion its public mission. Embracing an innovative, forward-thinking mindset, the Executive Director will identify strategic priorities for investment, provide leadership in clinical and translational research administration, and, together with the ERI team, assume responsibility for all facets of the ERI’s finance and administration.
The Executive Director represents the ERI within the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and externally. The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all aspects of ERI operations, including contracts, grants, human subject protections, IRB, regulatory compliance, finance, personnel management, data security, space, and equipment.
This role also engages faculty, ensures fiscal compliance, collaborates with Los Angeles County to optimize resource use, manages committee records, supports the Board of Trustees, liaises with hospital administration, and submits annual reports to Los Angeles County. Additionally, the Executive Director maintains federal certifications and oversees required reports and audits.
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and ideally a minimum of five years of experience in research administration, human resources, and people management. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a dynamic, inclusive, and enterprising approach, supported by a strong record of administrative excellence. They should possess intellectual stature and experience to inspire, integrate, and advance medical research and education within a major safety-net hospital setting.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $167,000 to $223,000, commensurate with experience.
