PURPOSE
The Research Development Officer, under direction, for the Autonomy Research Institute (ARI) will facilitate team interactions and progress for large, center-level proposal efforts. Identifies funding sources and solicitations, builds and organizes research teams to target such funding, and synthesizes research concepts to develop competitive proposals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research: 60%

Support the leadership of the Autonomous Research Institute (ARI) in developing and implementing short-term and long-term strategies and programs that align with the ARI research goals and initiatives

Support all stages of proposal development, including analyzing funding announcements, translating research and program concepts into specific and competitive

Write proposal narratives for external funding; consulting with other ARI staff and University faculty in the preparation of proposals; drafting non-technical portions of proposals

Coordinating resources and personnel to help ARI develop highly competitive research proposals, developing project timelines and identifying and compiling proposal components

Manage projects that include complex multi-PI proposal preparation; editing and critiquing proposal drafts; reviewing proposals not funded to develop re-submissions, etc.

Develops a comprehensive understanding of the research capabilities of Applied Autonomous Systems and other disciplines and how they align with university research priorities

Supports strategic planning efforts of proposal teams, including logistics, alignment to solicitation and agency guidelines, and coordination of internal and external review teams that may include contracted specialists and experts

Develops tools and guidance documents related to proposal development and checklists for solicitation components

Provides support in proposal narrative development, review, consolidation, and editing

Networks with various offices and organizations on- and off-campus in support of proposal development

Facilitates planning and linkages with existing funded projects or research efforts, including smaller proposal efforts, that will complement or could be leveraged to the larger proposal effort

Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data

Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results

Evaluates and summarizes results

Supervises undergraduate and/or graduate students involved in research development

Prepares reports for Executive Director and other directors

Creates and updates documents with potential grants or proposals

Maintains calendar of milestones and key dates
