The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative professional with experience in grants and contracts administration to join the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) as a Project Specialist III. This position is vital in advancing UNL’s growing research enterprise by ensuring sound financial and administrative management of externally funded projects.
OSP is part of the Office of Research and Innovation, supporting the university in securing and managing external funding for research, scholarly, and creative activities. We promote a culture and an environment for excellence in research, scholarship, creative endeavors, and economic development.
About the Role
As a member of the Post-Award Team, you’ll manage the financial and administrative aspects of grants, contracts, and gifts, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and sponsor requirements. Your work will empower researchers to focus on their discoveries while ensuring fiscal accuracy, compliance, and responsible stewardship of funds.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform financial management activities for gifts, grants and contracts received by UNL.
· Advise and train staff on compliance issues.
· Provide specialized guidance to faculty and staff in managing and closing out projects.
· Process and close awards.
· Prepare and sign financial reports and serve as a Sponsored Programs office liaison to funding sources.
· Perform specialized tasks for Post Award.
· Lead training sessions for departments.
· Provide oversight, training and/or mentoring for other OSP staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field plus 4 years of experience in an educational or governmental setting, including experience with administration of grants/contracts; equivalent education/experience considered.
· Experience with word processing, database, spread sheet and presentation software.
· Experience in accountancy.
· Work must demonstrate very few mistakes in transactions work, including account set up and manipulation.
· Demonstrated ability to stay on top of project tasks appropriately throughout project timeline.
· Ability to complete work in SAP or other automated system quickly and efficiently.
· Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations – Uniform Guidance, FAR clauses and CFR required.
· Knowledge of federal agency-specific rules and requirements essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s degree
· Experience in a university or state grants setting.
· Experience with all Microsoft Office products, SAP and UNL warehouse.
· CRA, CPA and/or CGFM certification.
