Associate Vice President for Research

Overview

The University of South Florida (USF) seeks an innovative, dynamic and proven administrator to serve in the position of Associate Vice President for Research of the Division of Sponsored Research (DSR) in the Office of the Vice President for Research & Innovation. DSR works with faculty through proposal services, sponsored contracts and grants for research and training, information services, notice of funding opportunities, certain post-award functions, a variety of compliance matters, and solicits and manages internal award programs. DSR also connects with the Division of Research Integrity & Compliance, the Division of Comparative Medicine, the Research Foundation and Division of Patents & Licensing, the Tampa Bay Technology Incubator, and the USF Research Park, which is located on the USF campus and is connected with affiliated USF parks in Lakeland, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota. DSR has a budget of nearly $3 million annually and 32 specialized employees.

Minimum Qualifications:  A bachelors degree along with five years of university research administration experience, with a strong emphasis on pre-award. Three of the five years of experience must be at a leadership level comparable to Director or above.

Preferred Qualifications:  Demonstrated leadership, organizational, fiscal, and management skills in a university research administration office; advanced knowledge of best research administration principles and practices, including federal cost accounting standards, Facilities & Administration Costs, contract negotiation, and compliance requirements; proven ability to manage, innovate, and successfully implement multiple strategic priorities in a complex, demanding, and changing environment; strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; demonstrated success in building collaborative teams and partnering effectively with other departments, institutions, government agencies, industry, and community groups; ability to empower staff and enable a collaborative and diverse work environment; excellent communication, consultative, and advisory skills; a doctorate or comparable terminal degree is preferred; a successful academic research and publication record would also be desirable.
