Senior Director, Cancer Research Operations

As a Senior Director Cancer Research Operations I, reporting to an Executive Director Research Operations, this role leads and manages the research operational activities of a large Cancer Institute holding a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation.

A caregiver in this position typically works onsite in Cleveland, Ohio, Days, 8:00am—5:00pm. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Sets priorities to assure that research is conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines and throughput is meeting service level expectations.
  • Works closely with research leaders to ensure service level expectations are managed and supported to align with research priorities. Creates and directs strategy and growth, implementation, research and shared services productivity, financial performance, compliance and risk mitigation, and continuous improvement for their research area.
  • Leads and manages people in a complex environment. Selects top talent and builds leadership succession.  Fosters culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within research operations.
  • Plans and manages resources and financial operations for assigned research areas, including budget development, expense and revenue analysis, evaluation of research support and shared services and development activities. 
  • Drives research integrity by partnering with researchers to ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and ethical standards governing research activities.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in business, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional and functionally relevant experience with 6 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience is required.  A master's degree in a relevant field may offset up to two years of the experience requirement.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Senior leadership experience within large healthcare organizations, preferably in a cancer center or setting.
  • Prefer strong background in research administrative experience managing large, complex funding sources, including budget management, strategic planning, and operational oversight.
  • Experience with NIH funding, is preferred.
  • Prefer demonstrated expertise in knowledge of accreditation standards, and compliance requirements related to cancer research.
