Project Director

Overview

The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at the NYU Silver School of Social Work is committed to creating new knowledge about the root causes of poverty, developing evidence-based interventions to address its consequences, and rapidly translating research findings into action through policy and best practices.

We are seeking to recruit a new member of our team to manage two, multi-year, federally funded, randomized controlled trials supporting mental health: (1) Safe Mothers, Safe Children (SMSC), an initiative to improve the identification and treatment of mothers with trauma-related disorders who are raising young children, and receiving child welfare preventive services and (2) WeCare, a study examining the effectiveness of a systems-level strategy to recognize and respond to suicide risk among Black youth who present to emergency departments.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and working in collaboration with the executive leadership team, the PD will lend their expertise and leadership to oversee these ongoing research studies at NYU McSilver, including but not limited to: administrative oversight, implementation activities, reporting, manuscript preparation, and coordination with the research team, as well as internal and external stakeholders. They will work with faculty and students on these research projects, and will supervise study staff. To be successful, the PD must be prepared to navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment.

  • Lead the research administration efforts on behalf of studies (i.e. submit progress reports, have regular budget meetings, oversee participant engagement, etc.)
  • Ensure technical, scientific, fiscal, administrative, and reporting obligations required by funding agencies are met

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent qualifications in public health, social sciences, or health sciences (May consider Master’s-level preparation with extensive research experience)
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of research administration and evaluation experience, and a minimum three (3) years of leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting but could also be in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropic setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of research models, methodology, and processes
  • Demonstrated experience in building and/or managing a high-performing team for translational and/or applied, community-based research
