Emory University's Office of Research, a renowned research enterprise known for their impact on people and communities around the world, seeks a collaborative, creative and solutions focused financial partner for the position of Assistant Vice President and Chief Business Officer (AVP/CBO). In FY 2023, Emory secured more than $1 billion of sponsored awards building on their previous year's record of $944.5 million, with growth of 55% over the last 5 years.

Reporting to Deborah Bruner, SVP of Research, the Chief Business Officer will join a growing, ambitious, and dynamic research enterprise. The AVP/CBO is a key member of the SVPR leadership team and the SVPR Research Council. They will have the opportunity to bring entrepreneurial thinking to business process improvements and strategic initiatives while serving as a trusted advisor to the SVPR and a collaborative and creative partner with the Vice President of Finance and Treasury, the Senior Vice Provost, Strategic Financial and Resource Planning, other leaders within the Research Office as well as business officers within the schools and units university-wide.

The Office of Research Business Operations includes 25 staff members and supports the Senior Vice President for Research. Offices include the areas of finance and budget, human resources, IT operations, data analytics and administrative services. Through quality customer service delivery, the team provides solutions that support sustainable and efficient use of all resources.

Desired qualifications include a bachelor's degree in business or related field and 10 years of progressively responsible budget and financial management and research administration related experience. Master's degree and experience in higher education, research and finance preferred. Demonstrated success in managing, motivating, and developing a team. Demonstrated commitment to advancing and promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity. Outstanding interpersonal, communication, organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

The compensation range for this position is $230,000-240,000 with a generous benefits package designed to support physical, mental, and financial wellness.
