PURPOSE
The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) is seeking a Research Development Offi cer (RDO) to work directly with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to pursue strategic, externally sponsored research funding opportunities. The RDO assists with writing compelling and competitive proposals responsive to these opportunities, and they will advise on elements of competitive applications and provide support in proposal narrative development, consolidation, review, critiquing, and editing. This position will identify interdisciplinary connections within the university, serve as an expert advisor, and have a role in strategy development, long-range planning, and large proposal development.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Development - 45%
Work in collaboration with CBI’s Executive Team to strategize, set goals and prioritize proposal submissions.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of CBI research capabilities in geospatial science and related disciplines.
Proactively identify diverse portfolio of potential sponsors and available funding opportunities.
Provide individualized grantsmanship advice, coaching, and assistance to researchers in proposal writing.
Consult with faculty about strategies on programs and projects that improve their competitive research capacity to obtain external funding.
Work strategically to build smaller proposals into larger team proposals.
Serve as a liaison with sponsors to understand their funding priorities and determine best ‘fi ts’ for top ideas.
Assist with the formation of transdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and/or otherwise collaborative research teams, including proposal development and logistics internally, or with external institutional partners.
Actively follow up and advise on submitted proposals. Collect and analyze data to track proposal success rates.
Assist faculty in building relationships with corporate and industry partners and in seeking funding from those sponsors.
Create and maintain proposal records to identify trends and make process and content improvements.
Proposal Preparation - 45%
Support the pre-award process for proposal development including, creating timelines and strategic planning, coordinating with collaborators both on and off campus, and coordinating proposal submissions with CBI’s Assistant Director of Research Administration and Texas A&M University Sponsored Research Services.
Assist with writing and/or editing complex research proposals.
Prepare and edit text, figures, and tables to increase impact and clarity of research proposals.
Education & Outreach - 10%
Create content for CBI’s Intranet including repository of sponsors, funding opportunity announcements, best practices and other guidance in support of research development.
Create content and host workshops, brown bag sessions and other forums to help create a culture of engagement in the research enterprise at CBI.
Coordinate with other Research Development Offi cers on assessing needs of researchers and then implementing workshops, panels, or videos on strategies to create more competitive proposals.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Bachelor’s degree.
Three (3) years related work experience writing, editing, and/or developing competitive proposals to federal, state, or industry sponsors.
About Us
Equivalent combination of education and experience: Master's degree with one (1) year of related work experience writing, editing, and/or developing competitive proposals to federal, state, or industry sponsors.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret complex scientifi c or technical data, including the ability to translate diffi cult technical information into language suitable for target audience(s).
Detailed and deadline oriented.
WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE
Master's degree or Doctoral degree.
More than three years’ experience writing, editing, and/or developing competitive proposals to federal, state, or industry sponsors.
Demonstrated experience working at an institution of higher education, non-profi t, or other entity as a grant writer.
Research administration experience.
Familiarity with sponsor online submission systems such as Grants.gov and Research.gov.
Experience in serving on grant review panels.
SALARY: $55,000 - $60,000
