POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Oversee the grant pre-award process for the College of Medicine, including the facilitation of timely submissions and revisions of NIH grants, reviewing and approving budget proposals, and ensuring that investigators are continually updated regarding policies and procedures for grant submissions.
  • Direct and establish priorities for day to day operations, conduct strategic planning to align with research administration and research leadership.
  • Recruit, train and supervise the OGS staff. Provide mentorship and support to the OGS staff.
  • Provide problem solving resolution to the OGS staff and Einstein research community (where relevant) include escalation, work delegation, training, performance management, feedback and alignment to achieve unit goals.
  • Establish and ensure ongoing application of processes and best practices for all services provided by the OGS team. Standardize workflow, communication flow, status tracking, and documentation processes for all pre-award tasks.
  • Serve as a Signing Official for the College of Medicine for federal grants.
  • Funding opportunity identification and notification:
      • Optimization of Einstein's systems for identifying and disseminating new federal and non-federal funding opportunities to faculty;
      • Assisting investigators in navigating NIH operations, award rates, eligibility requirements, etc;
      • Working with Einstein's departments and NIH-designated centers to identify key faculty partners for multi-project grant applications;
      • Serving as a POC for investigators with complex grants and contracts that involve multiple institutions partnering with Einstein.
  • Training:
    • o Provide ongoing web-based and in-person consultation and education for first-time applicants;
      o Meet with departments and centers on a regular basis to monitor their needs for ongoing education and training for early-stage investigators.
      o Manage the training of investigators and their staffs utilize Einstein's Cayuse system as well as interacting with the NIH Commons and its equivalent with other federal and non-federal sponsors
  • Coordinate interaction among departmental administrators in the preparation of interdepartmental applications including center, program and training grants, site visits, and awards committee applications.
  • Act as a centralized database for college wide faculty grant activities, and provide regular reports to the Dean's office.
  • Work collaboratively with the Einstein Centers and Institutes Coordinating Group to leverage work being done to create new research teams for targeted new research funding (eg, PCORI, NY State, Foundation, and NIH).
  • Manage the Awards Committee that vets internal Einstein faculty proposals prior to applying for Foundation grants that limit the applicant pool.
  • Foster a compliant environment by staying abreast of changes in agency regulations, requirements, and policies and disseminating agency information. Keep informed of emerging federal issues that will impact sponsored programs. Disseminate applicable information to the Einstein Research Community in a timely and effective manner.

ABOUT US

The Director oversees all staffing, budget, and operations of the Office of Grant Support (OGS) functional areas of proposal development. This role will analyze and interpret data, policies and procedures, and other reports as needed in relation to pre-award research administration, and disseminating pre-award research administration related information to research stakeholders. The Director will provide leadership, planning, assistance, support, and compliance for all aspects of pre-award sponsored research and sponsored programs administration. The position will serve as the subject matter expert for all pre-award services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree plus 5-7 years of related experience pre-award and/or sponsored administration in a college setting (preferred). Experience with budget development.
  • Significant prior experience with the research grant application process and demonstrable knowledge of and experience with NIH eCommons, all other Federal and non-Federal portals is required.
  • Broad understanding of college and sponsored research environment.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and to present information in a concise and organized fashion in both oral and written form.
  • Sufficient skills in the information technology area to be able to oversee the acquisition and use of web-based and other computer-assisted systems and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with significant deadline pressure and deal with concerned faculty and their staffs as deadlines approach.
  • Strong familiarity with Cayuse or other software system used by Higher Education Institutions to submit proposals.
