The Office of Sponsored Program Accounting, a division of the UNTHSC Research Office, provides Pre and Post-Award, and accounting services for the support of faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.

  • Review and interpret award documents to determine financial invoicing and/or reporting requirements, adherence to sponsor regulations policies to ensure appropriate billing requirements, accurate invoicing, allowable expenditures, payment provisions, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting practices, legal statutes, policy, and procedures affecting financial record keeping, a thorough knowledge of cost and audit accounting, ability to work accurately with numerical detail consistently and to perform accounting operations legibly, and the ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in a clear concise form.
  • Responsible for accurate billing, accounts receivable management, and financial reporting for projects to minimize financial risk to the University, ensuring compliance to avoid fines and penalties as well as project analysis, including forecasts of anticipated surplus/deficits of project budgets.
  • Project administration including accurate expenditure approvals, processing of cost transfers journals and budget journals, new award review for quality checks, assisting with audits, utilizing multiple sponsors and internal electronic systems and websites, data entry, electronic files, and participation in business process change.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate grant closeout functions required by Grants and Contracts Office and sponsors requirements including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, purchase order liquidations, budget reductions, and final reporting.
  • Organizing the audit file in response to an audit request and maintaining status updates. Liaison with departments in gathering department held support for audit requests on sponsored projects based on sample selection. Assist in gathering documentation for audit requests in the Office of Sponsored Programs based on sample selection. Effective communication with the Grant Accounting Manager in preparation of audit responses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
