Pre-Award Research Administrator 4 (Hybrid)
Overview
The Research Administrator 4 (RA4) in the Sponsored Projects Office (SPO) at UC Merced holds a senior position within the office. Under limited direction of the Pre-award Supervisor, this position serves as a mentor for junior staff, serves as a technical specialist in a particular area, such as federal and state contracts, grants, subcontracts or information systems. This position will assist Pre-award Research Administrators in their review of administrative management requirements of contracts and grants to ensure compliance with sponsor policies and institutional guidelines according to established policies, practices and defined internal controls. This position is also responsible for assisting the Pre-award Supervisor for ensuring the department provides customer oriented, value added pre-award supporting services to the Principle Investigators. Contributes to development of department policies and procedures, exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate actions. Identifies risks and responds accordingly through established process resolution or escalation to department leadership. Uses advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions. The position may be charged with leading various management projects/initiatives by facilitating work-groups, gathering facts from support staff, and developing sound recommendations to the Supervisor that support the mission of the research community. This may include the periodic evaluation of processes and the review of business rules that affect University award management policies and work processes that impact contract and grant administration.
