Position Summary:

The Director of the IACUC will have primary responsibility for administrative IACUC support, direct management of the protocol review process, and business management of the IACUC Office administrative staff. This position will assist the IACUC and AVP Res. Reg & Compliance with interpreting federal legislation and other policies. The Director will work with university-wide committees to disseminate information, provide guidance, leadership, and develop policies and procedures to assure efficient and user-friendly protocol review process and University compliance with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare at National Institutes of Health - NIH (OLAW) regulations and AAALAC, International guidance.

Education, Certification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required/Advanced degree is preferred.
  • 5 (five) or more years of IACUS administrative experience.
  • Certified Professional IACUS Administrator (CPIA) is preferred but will be required within first year of hire.
  • AALAS CMAR and or LATG certification is preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five or more years of experience in laboratory animal research, including experience in IACUC administration and program management or related work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to apply all relevant federal, state, and university regulations policies, and federal guidance documents.
  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design, scientific research concepts and terminology.
  • Strong proficiency in public speaking and writing. Must be comfortable speaking to large audiences and explaining complex regulatory requirements to both scientists and lay people.
