Cleveland Clinic’s Genomic Medicine Institute is looking to add a Department Administrator II to their dedicated team of caregivers. The Genomic Medicine Institute is committed to performing basic, translational and clinical human genetics and genomics research and fostering innovation toward realizing the benefits of personalized genomic-based healthcare. As a Department Administrator, you will manage the department’s overall operations to include budget development, oversight of basic and clinical research operations, and personnel management. You will also assist in the development of department strategic initiatives aligned with the institute and enterprise.

Preferred Qualifications an Responsibilities:

  • Management of department operational and business activities
  • Gives advice and assists with grant proposal preparation, including budget development, assisting with administrative portions of proposals, and coordinating submission
  • Works closely with Staff to review, approve and process grant modifications, pre-award requests and no-cost extensions.
  • Provides regular post-award transactional support, monitoring, reporting, and expense forecasting.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on grant management for the Department and act as a liaison to the Office of Sponsored Programs, external sponsors, and internal/external auditors.
  • Is conversant in applicable sponsor rules and regulations
  • Prepares and submits documents in an accurate and timely manner
  • Monitors grant effort and adheres to related salary and effort limitations imposed under sponsor or institute policies.
  • Supports and manages compliance initiatives associated with Lerner Research Institute programs

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the application of CC operating procedures and communicates with management to ensure understanding and compliance with policies/procedures.
  • Manages the selection and placement of new employees, performance evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Interprets and communicates policies/procedures and communicates relevant changes.
  • Develops and manages departmental operating budgets and educational funding activities and monitors cost variances.
  • Manages operational areas and identifies and drives improvement opportunities in key areas including, quality management, employee engagement and other department functions that support the overall institute performance.
  • Implements strategic initiatives within the department including institute growth strategies, new practice acquisitions and marketing plans.
  • Note: Level of administrator is dependent on the review and applications of organizational criteria that includes, but is not limited to: Budgeted FTE's, budgeted operating expense, number of sites and locations, and staff FTE's.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related Field.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Five years progressively responsible related work experience, including supervisory experience.
  • A Master's Degree may offset two years of the experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires extensive sitting and dexterity to perform work on a PC and ability to walk to attend meetings; must have normal or corrected vision and the ability to verbally communicate to employees and patients.
