Post Award Research Administrator

About the Position:

The Post Award Research Administrator will serve as an integral part of the Post Award team, ensuring awards and modifications are entered accurately and timely. The Research Administrator role also serves as a resource to faculty, and college and department administrators for questions related to award management. This position requires a significant emphasis on customer service, financial monitoring, and an understanding and ability to interpret complex regulations, requirements, and terms and conditions to ensure compliance. As part of the Post Award team in OSP, the Research Administrator will interface regularly with other OSP staff, department and college research administrators, University central office staff, faculty, and external sponsors.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews new awards and modifications and creates the award record in the University research administration system for an assigned portfolio of units; analyzes key terms and conditions within the award document, and ensures the system accurately reflects sponsor requirements;
  • Reviews proposal record to identify any compliance requirements and coordinates necessary actions with the principal investigator and appropriate university offices to ensure all required approvals are in place prior to finalizing the award set up;
  • Works with investigators and department administrators to finalize the award budget for new awards and modifications; coordinates with the contracts team to initiate sub-award agreements when applicable;
  • Serves as a resource to faculty and department/college level administrators regarding matters related to award set up, sponsor terms and conditions, and policies, procedures, and federal requirements governing post award management of sponsored awards;
  • Maintains a working knowledge of external regulatory requirements to ensure compliance;
  • Responds promptly to inquiries or requests for assistance as they relate to post award;
  • Performs analysis of issues and determines appropriate resolution; and
  • Serves on working groups or other special initiatives as needed. Performs other related duties incidental to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience;
  • Related professional experience in research administration (generally 3+ years);
  • Post award experience and extensive knowledge of Uniform Guidance;
  • Knowledge of, and ability to interpret federal, state, sponsor, and university guidelines;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teams throughout the university;
  • Strong skills in Excel and other Microsoft based software applications, problem solving and analytical skills, and strong attention to detail; and
  • Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner financial system;
  • Knowledge and experience with sponsor research administration systems;
  • Experience in an academic or related research environment; and
  • Certified Research Administrator or similar accreditation.

Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of the United States;
  • A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a “Green Card” holder);
  • A person who is a “protected individual” as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a) (3); or
  • A person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
