Harriot College employs approximately 450 full-time faculty and staff, and the Dean’s Office oversees all budget, personnel and academic matters in its departments, interdisciplinary programs, centers, institutes, and auxiliary offices.

Job Duties              

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Administers the overall program for pre-award grant administration for the Hub, from development to submission, with direct reporting to the college Associate Dean for Research. Identifies and disseminates funding opportunities that match the research interests, projects, and expertise of faculty using a variety of online databases and tools. Acts as the Hub’s single point of contact for grant proposal submission through eTRACS, NSF Fastlane, Research.gov, Grants.gov, NOAA Grants Online, and other electronic submission portals, and for proposal tracking through NIH e-Commons. Reviews, interprets, and applies sponsor regulations and guidelines for electronic submissions.

Coordinates faculty proposal submissions, including coordinating individual user account set up, sponsor registration, download the application package, and provide preliminary review and interpretation of sponsor guidelines, coordinates internal review panels. Develops budgets, budget narratives, and other required documents, in conjunction with investigator-provided information. Collaborates with a variety of colleagues and experts across the college and university, taking full advantage of expertise of all team members, and reinvesting in the larger network appropriately. Learns from staff with post-award management responsibilities to ensure proposal budget development is optimized. Coordinates large interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary proposals with faculty internal and/or external to the university. Approves/disapproves submissions on behalf of the college to ensure only competitive proposals are forwarded to the Office of Research Administration.

Liaises with offices of Research Administration and Corporate and Foundation Relations to ensure timely and efficient grant submission, management, and compliance. Integrates with Hub personnel in an administrative leadership role. Works with the Associate Dean for Research on the development and implementation of institution-wide rules and regulations necessary to maintain compliance and to ensure meaningful and consistent pre-award management of grants and contracts. Develops and disseminates reports on pre-award activities. Liaises with external sponsors as well as university central offices and college and departmental offices to ensure sponsor and university compliance.

Oversees the development and delivery of training for pre-award services for departmental and college research support staff, faculty, and administrators. Develops and oversees policies and procedures related to pre-award grants management. Identifies and resolves operational issues. Contributes insights and advice to research leaders in the college and university to ensure continued growth and effectiveness in research administration. Serves on institutional committees and participates in institution-wide special projects. Other duties as assigned.

This position may be up to 100% remote.

Minimum Education/Experience       

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education           

Five (5) years demonstrated experience with development and submission of extramural proposal for grants and contracts in a university environment; demonstrated understanding and appreciation for partnerships with faculty, senior administrators, and external research sponsor officials; and CRA Certification preferred.
