Job Summary: The Business Manager is responsible for establishing, maintaining and closing contracts and grants in the University accounting system, including grant matching funds required by 2 CFR 200 and assisting with the testing and implementation of the Banner Financial System updates as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience: or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.
Position Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of accounting principles. Thorough knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of complex federal and state rules, laws, regulations governing sponsored research administration (including but not limited to 2 CFR 200). Knowledge of statistical principles and analysis. Thorough knowledge and application of various and specific computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat and SCT Banner, Document Imaging (BDMS).
Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree and 5 years of accounting experience. 1 Year experience with Accounting Software program. Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 70% - COORDINATES AND MANAGES FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION OF GRANTS AND CONTRACTS: Controls budgets, receipts and expenditure of grants & contracts for compliance. Invoices third parties as it relates to assigned grants and contracts and completes expenditure reports. Monitors sub-award contracts and spending to comply with federal, state and University rules and regulations. Coordination of collection & reconciliation of account receivables. Resolves RSP grant fund accounting issues with PI and various college and department business managers. Recommends and resolves problems with cash & match funding. Assists outside agencies on all areas of the projects as requested. Reviews seed accounts for accuracy and adjusts budget as appropriate. Initiates fixed rate indirect cost adjustments. Reviews CFDA numbers for accuracy. Formulates, interprets, and applies audit procedures 2 CFR 200 along with University policies and procedures to manage resources and operations which include University colleges, human resources, purchasing, and administrative services. Coordinates financial and budget activities with Sponsored Research funds. Directs and coordinates the financial closeout of grants and contracts. Participates, prepares and responds to various audit requirements. - (Essential)
  • 15% - BANNER ADMINISTRATION: Establishes plan for matching funds and monitors the fund to ensure posting is in compliance. Coordinates training, database maintenance, system access to process journal entries and online budget transfers (BT). Coordinates the development of new Banner system implementations in BT Workflow as they pertain to RSP. - (Essential)
  • 5% - ADMINISTRATIVE TEAMWORK COORDINATION: Provides input into budget planning process and responsible for controlling and recommending budget expenditures on grants and contracts and makes recommendations as appropriate. Coordinates with Budget Office to train college and departmental business managers on the use of online budget (BT) transfers. Designs and develops on-line accounting reports and modules to improve information flow, eliminate redundancies, and enhance efficiencies. - (Essential)
  • 10% - RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS FOR REPORTS AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS STUDIES: Reviews financial expenditure reports, activity/effort reports, and other performance data to measure productivity, goal achievement, to determine areas needing cost reduction in compliance with project specifications. - (Essential)
