Position Summary:

The mission of the re-established Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is to enhance the University's internal capability to generate external funding. This is accomplished by providing members of the University community with a variety of supportive services and assistance that is outlined below. The intention of the ORSP is to ensure that the grant development and submission process is as user-friendly as possible for the Principal Investigator (PI) and the grant development team. Academic Affairs

This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, and highly-effective, research-oriented and skilled, administrative professional to lead faculty and academic administration in the pursuit of distinction and excellence in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. The academic enterprise includes more than 700 faculty in six academic schools (Leon Hess School of Business; Wayne D. McMurray Humanities and Social Sciences; School of Education; School of Science; School of Social Work; Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies), 33 undergraduate majors, 26 master's and doctoral programs, the Honors School, the Educational Opportunity Fund Program, Graduate Studies, Murry and Leonie Guggenheim Memorial Library, and several administrative units including the Center for Student Success, the Global Education Office, the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Office of Research Compliance.

In addition to the academic schools and departments, there are six unique Centers of Distinction (The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music; Center for the Arts; Institute for Global Understanding; Monmouth University Polling Institute; Kislak Real Estate Institute; Urban Coast Institute), run by top experts and professors, that provide opportunities for research, scholarly, and creative engagement for faculty and students, and address areas like the environment, global affairs, and public policy.

Director of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP)

Under the direct supervision of the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) will re-establish the ORSP as part of the University's strategic plan. An ideal candidate will have the capacity to lead all aspects of institutional grants and contracts and will be the authorized official for submissions of all faculty/staff driven federal, state, and private grants. This person will also have the opportunity to build the infrastructure needed for pre- and post-awards and compliance.

Primary duties of the Director are: to work collaboratively with faculty and units across Monmouth University to establish the University's research mission by enhancing resources and opportunities for faculty scholarly activities, and faculty/student scholarly collaborations. The Director will articulate a strategic plan from submission through external funding, and increase revenue generated through externally-funded sources.

Required Skills or Software:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately, Basic Knowledge of MS Word 2016, Basic Knowledge of MS Excel 2016, Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks

Required Years of Experience: 5

Other Requirements:
Advanced education at the master’s level and five years of progressively more responsible professional experience in research and sponsored programs development and administration, preferably in an academic environment. Knowledge of research compliance (e.g., IRB and IACUC)

Detailed and current knowledge of federal agencies’ regulations and procedures applicable to grants and contracts; excellent oral and written communication skills

A successful record of developing and preparing proposals and obtaining grants from federal, state, and private sectors.

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree. Successful experience as a principal investigator. A certification as a CRA (Certified Research Administrator) is a plus. Utilization of grants management systems/software. Proven ability to work effectively with faculty in a variety of disciplines across the University.
