The Jane Addams College of Social Work is seeking an experienced Manager of Research Operations to manage the research operations and long-term planning for the Jane Addams College of Social Work. This role includes all aspects of research administration and operations including proposal, grant, contract and subcontract development, management and compliance. Serve as the College's primary contact with the Office of Sponsored Programs, College HR, external sponsors and internal/external auditors.

Duties & Responsibilities
Identify and inform College faculty of funding opportunities that correspond to their interests and background.
· Research and review sponsor requirements at the proposal stage and ensure compliance prior to application submission. Prepare proposal timeline, proposal budget and budget justification.
· Secure cost-share approval, faculty teaching reallocation approval, and documentation from external subcontractors.
Serve as a subject matter expert on grant management for the College and act as a liaison to the Office of Sponsored Programs, external sponsors, and internal/external auditors.
· Manage, review, edit and administer all financial activities of grants, contracts, consulting agreements, subcontracts and vendor agreements for sponsored projects.
· Develop a shadow system to reconcile sponsored project expenses against Banner, track cost share expenses, and forecast budget balances.
· Request accounts and prepare budgets; manage requests for no-cost extensions, progress reports, budget changes, prior approvals, and grant close-outs.
· Identify appropriate employee types/classifications for sponsored projects, prepare job advertisements, and maintain employee data.
· Process labor redistributions and personnel transactions; track all personnel changes to ensure personnel is accurately reflected in the Effort Reporting process.
· Advise faculty on the appropriate use and function of University Purchasing cards, employee reimbursement processing, invoices, MOUs, program advances, and research participant incentives.
· Plan, develop and interpret policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy and proper oversight of the College’s research enterprise; update and maintain the research administration sections of the College’s Policy Manual.
· Prepare reports for the Dean and Associate Dean for Administration as requested; perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social or basic sciences, humanities, business, or public health is required; Master’s degree is strongly preferred;

Minimum of three years experience in a research management setting with at least two years of research administration required; Knowledge of principles and processes involved in contractual and grant monitoring procedures required.

Strong interpersonal, management, and communication skills required; excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills required; Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment required.

UIC research administration experience and UIC systems experience is strongly preferred; university research administration background is strongly preferred. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) preferred.
