University Executive Director, Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects

Overview

Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for a new University Executive Director, Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects. Fairleigh Dickinson University seeks an experienced professional to serve the University and the community in this important role. The position reports to the University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The primary office location for the University Executive Director will be on the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, NJ.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the research mission of the institution through the implementation and oversight of customer-focused services facilitating the submission of proposals, receipt and negotiation of awards, and fiscal management;
  • Provide leadership in the management and continuous improvement of all pre- and post-award activities, and regulatory compliance for externally sponsored activities;
  • Ensure all staff and research community are aware of regulatory changes affecting their grant program;
  • Serve as FDU’s Administrative Official for all grant and contract interfaces with Sponsors; and
  • Maintain a professional environment that promotes compliant business policies, procedures and practices and works with faculty and staff in a supportive partnership.

 

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree required.
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years sponsored programs experience required with increasing responsibilities in an academic medical center or University with 2 years of experience in contract negotiation for diverse types of sponsored program agreements and 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong background in research administration required.
  • Certification in research administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of key compliance requirements as contained in Uniform Guidance 2 CFR Part 200. Knowledge of priorities, procedures, and the policies of funding agencies, such as NIH, NSF, DOD, DOJ, and a variety of other federal and state sponsors.
  • Experience with other federal funding sources such as foundations and industry.
  • Strong knowledge of sponsored programs administration and grant submission systems as well as the regulations governing grant administration, compliance, processing, and reporting.
  • Critical management skills and ability to lead and develop personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and streamlining systems; basic research and programmatic development; oversight of external on-site and desk audits.
  • Ability to develop, prioritize and accomplish realistic goals.
  • Ability to recognize potential and mentor future leaders.
  • Effective critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective communications and people skills with a high degree of professionalism in dealing with staff at all levels of the institution.
  • Knowledge of Federal grant regulations such as the NIH Grants Policy Statement and the NSF Grants Policy Manual.
  • Ability to read and interpret grantor guidelines to assure compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels within the institution.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to build and maintain complex models to support Executive Leadership decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.  Candidate for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Cards.
