Research & Administrative Services - Grants Specialist

Overview

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Grants Specialist to join the Research and Administrative Services department. In cooperation with the Director of Research & Administrative Services, this individual will provide Wistar faculty and scientific staff with non-financial pre- and post-award grants administration support.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintain and monitor grant proposal and post-award deliverable pipelines.
  • In cooperation with Principal Investigators (PIs), compile grant proposals and post-award reports. Inclusive of but not limited to comprehensive review of sponsoring agency proposal/reporting guidelines and communication of these to PI and relevant internal administrative departments, editorial review of grant proposals and reports, obtain all pre-award institutional approvals. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal grant deadlines, requirements, and regulations for standard RFAs including but not limited to R01, R21, P50, P30, P01, T32 U19, F32, and K99 funding mechanisms.
  • Monitor changes to federal grant regulations and compliance requirements, including but not limited to public access compliance and invention disclosure.  
  • Coordinate with the Office of IACUC and IRB Administration for required regulatory approvals 
  • Coordinate with the Office of Institutional Advancement on Foundation grant proposal submissions and post-award reporting requirements. 
  • Coordinate with the Office of Business Development on Intellectual Property rights associated with grant proposals and awards. 
  • Work with principal investigators to maintain current biosketch, resources and other support documents.
  • Serve as experts for the Institute’s Electronical Research Administration software and work with principal investigators and administrators to navigate the system and resolve problems. 
  • Work with Institute authors to ensure compliance with NIH public access policy. Assist with the NIHMS, myNCBI and eCommons portals as related to publications. 

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) required, preferably in a business-related field. A minimum of 3 years of related grants administration experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of pre- and post-award grants administration; knowledge of NIH application requirements and policy regulations; experience managing complex grant submissions and awards; experience managing multiple PI grant portfolios; experience with grant submissions and management portals - NIH eRA Commons, NIH ASSIST, NIH xTrain, Research.gov, eBRAP and Proposal Central; knowledge of NIH Public Access Policy; familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Sharepoint. We are seeking a candidate with stong analytical, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
