Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Research Management directs the research and scholarly activities of the A. James Clark School of Engineering faculty in collaboration with research and administrative staff in
ENGR departments and centers.

Research support areas include:

 

  1. Strategic services for faculty seeking grant funding;
  2. Sponsored research proposal development, review, award and financial management;
  3. Oversight of large research initiatives within the college;
  4. Creation, implementation and upkeep of research practices, systems, and procedures;
  5. Professional development of research administrators;
  6. Financial compliance monitoring and audit support;
  7. Research compliance oversight (IRB, COI, IP); and

The Director of Research Management represents ENGR on University-wide research topics. The incumbent partners closely with the University Research Leadership, specifically the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) including the Office of Research Administration, Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance, and various compliance offices.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years work experience in the administrative management of sponsored programs including a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of University of Maryland policies and procedures as they relate to external funding.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel or other data management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce complex analytical reports.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.

  • Ability to establish and monitor fiscal and operational controls.
  • Ability to create, maintain and monitor strong internal controls within all areas of responsibility.
