Research Accountant
Overview
Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development, Division of Research Administration (DRA) is seeking to hire a Research Accountant. The principle responsibilities of a Research Accountant are as follows:
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports and invoices to sponsors.
- Ensure the rapid collection of all monies owed to the University under these awards.
- Provide regulatory guidance to faculty, department heads, and departmental accounting staff.
- Provide training to university personnel on accounting procedures for sponsored projects.
- Review grant and contract activity to ensure financial compliance.
This position is part of a departmental career path program. Job level and salary is based on prior related experience.

Basic Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of six hours of accredited college accounting courses.
Experience: Three years of professional accounting-related experience.
Skills:
Knowledge of research administration issues including financial management and the ability to interpret and communicate federal, state, and local laws and regulations relevant to research administration operations, policies, and procedures;
Ability to communicate effectively, including active listening skills, plus the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, administrators, and other stakeholders;
Ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume of complex projects simultaneously to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
Ability to provide excellent customer service with a commitment to exceptional quality;
Ability to think analytically, quantitatively, creatively, and strategically;
Be an independent thinker with professional skepticism;
Team player who works well collectively and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals; Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of UT fiscal, human resource and research policies; Knowledge of Uniform Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and granting agency requirements; Knowledge of SAP and/or Cayuse
