Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs

Overview

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) supports faculty research and scholarship, curricular and professional development, programmatic projects, and creative works through a combination of internal and external grants. The office also oversees research compliance with all appropriate regulations through the coordination of research integrity committees to ensure that there is an efficient and effective process for internal and external grant administration and adequate oversight for research compliance.

OSP manages two areas of responsibility—grants administration and research compliance—and serves as the University-wide office of record for these activities. Grants administration oversees internal grant committees and approvals, external sponsorship support, and pre-/post-award services. The OSP director serves as the University’s official program officer and authorized official representative (AOR) for research-related grants and is the primary point of contact for online web portals. Research compliance manages all compliance protocol reviews and training.

The OSP Director manages the daily operations of the office. The Director works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders regarding sponsored activities. The Director supervises the Assistant Director, who serves as the Research Compliance Officer and manages the daily operations for compliance and integrity.

The duties of the Director may include, but not limited to, the following:

Direct and support the University's Sponsored Programs and Research Integrity programs to advance the mission of the University; build relationships with internal and external constituencies to develop the University's Sponsored Programs and serve the University community; work with other academic leaders to guide and enhance the University's efforts to obtain external funding from federal, state, local government, and the private sector to support research, scholarship, creative works, curriculum development, outreach activities, and other programs; provide vision, leadership, and comprehensive management and oversight for OSP in the areas of contract and grant operations.

Develop and administer University policies and procedures related to Sponsored Programs; analyze and interpret policy and procedures related to research administration and intellectual policy; identity, develop and disseminate research administration-related information to the campus.

Assist and train faculty and staff regarding best practices for proposal and budget development; review proposals for compliance with sponsor guidelines and help guide the pre-award routing approval process; guide faculty and staff with application submissions to external sponsors and serve as primary contact with sponsor agencies; administer and promote the University's internal grant programs for research, scholarship and creative activities.

Collaborate with the Office of Budget and Grant Administration regarding fiscal management of Sponsored Programs; oversee pre- and post-award non-accounting services related to Sponsored Programs; monitor (non-fiscal) Sub-Recipients on Sponsored Programs.

Along with General Counsel, review and negotiate contracts, MTAs, Intellectual Property, and other agreements related to Sponsored Programs; maintain University records related to Sponsored Programs; contribute to maintenance and management of University accounts in federal agencies' web portals; provide reports as required to internal and external constituencies.

Supervise the Assistant Director to ensure compliance with Research Integrity and Sponsored Programs regulations; manage the Office of Sponsored Programs budget and office programming. Successful candidates will have a keen desire to energetically support and enhance the work of the University as related to Sponsored Programs and Research Integrity and possess a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a professional understanding of the intersectionality of identities.
