Senior Financial Coordinator

 

The MIT Department of Chemical Engineering (ChemE) seeks senior financial coordinator to work closely with the senior financial officer for research administration on comprehensive financial management of a portfolio of the department’s sponsored research activities, including pre- and post-award administration and ensuring compliance with MIT policies and sponsor requirements. 

 

Responsibilities include cradle-to-grave sponsored research administration for an assigned portfolio of principal investigators (PIs); preparing and submitting research proposals and contracts and assisting PIs with budgets and administrative content; preparing reports, forecasting, disseminating the information, and meeting with PIs monthly to review and plan; complete the pre-award administration of grants, including reviewing solicitations and determining necessary components, organizing proposals, and managing renewal and/or submission of applications; participating in sponsored project closeout process; ensuring the assigned portfolio is compliant with MIT research administration policies; monitoring research financial management of assigned portfolio, including overseeing cost-sharing, under-recovery, overruns, and other research-related issues; assisting with the preparation of larger-scale financial reports; reviewing and ensuring the timely processing and submission of information relating to sponsored activity both internally and externally; preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual budget reports for assigned portfolio; and other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor‘s degree
  • Three years of financial management experience, including experience with the administration of sponsored research programs in a university setting
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handle deadlines and stressful situations, and multitask
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines
  • Flexibility in adjusting to new technologies related to grant and sponsored contract management
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Kuali Coeus (KC), SAP, Cognos, BrioQuery, and NIMBUS
