Contracts & Grants Specialist

Overview

The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC) is one of only 70 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers in the United States. This designation recognizes centers around the country that meet rigorous criteria for world-class, state-of-the-art programs in multidisciplinary research. The IUSCCC puts significant resources into developing research programs, faculty, and facilities that will lead to better approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Works within the Administrative Office of the IUSCCC and advises and provides pre- and post-award account management and fiscal compliance support.
  • Provides support for research activity within the IUSCCC for both internal and external grants to include all aspects of proposal preparation and submission.
  • Serves as a primary delegate to the IUSCCC fiscal officers for grant accounts and faculty research accounts in making decisions and providing directions within established guidelines and policies.
  • Analyzes research and grant financial data accurately and timely providing guidance on budget development, re-budgeting, and potential overspending.
  • Creates and maintains numerous specialized financial reports.
  • Serves as an IUSCCC liaison to IU’s Office of Research Administration, working in cooperation with other university offices, non-profit foundations, and institutions of higher education.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides financial monitoring and analysis of contracts and grants and partners with Principal Investigator(s) to ensure expenses are being paid according to contract
  • Consults on and completes pre-award applications and participates in contract closeouts.
  • Performs post-award accounting of more complex grants; interprets regulations and guidelines of program funding for standard grants and prepares reports for grant agency.
  • Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligation.
  • Requests or approves amendments to contract terms or contract extensions.
  • Prepares bids or requests for proposals (RFPs), including specifications and requirements; negotiates contract terms and participates in the determination of acceptable bids.
  • Provides policy and procedure interpretation to various stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, university policies/procedures and federal/state regulations.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
