Sr. Financial Analyst

The Research Accounting team is seeking to find a Sr. Financial Analyst to join their team. This is an exciting career path and we invite you to consider this opportunity.  

The Senior Research Analyst provides financial and compliance management of considerable difficulty by partnering with established Faculty members to support their complex sponsored research projects and institutional portfolios. The Senior Research Analyst is responsible for offering a high-level of customer service and exceptional financial and analytical expertise to support established Faculty, department staff and agency sponsor representatives in all matters pertaining to the fiscal management of research awards.
 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements fiscal strategies to manage laboratory operations and minimize risk to the portfolio and Institute.
  • Forecasts the financial trends of Faculty laboratory operations
  • Independently conducts meetings with Faculty to present financial projections and provide financial business recommendations.
  • Creates accounts and budgets for awarded sponsored research projects and Institute funded research.
  • Prepares and ensures the accuracy and integrity of various financial and other reports
  • Analyzes and approves expenditures to determine allowability and allocability of costs incurred
  • Manages lab personnel effort allocations on sponsored research projects and on Institute funded research.
  • Facilitates cost reimbursement invoices for subaward agreements.
  • Prepares and processes adjusting journal entry transactions.
  • Reviews and distributes faculty financial reports.
  • Provides support and training to other Research Analysts with day-to-day functions and acts as a mentor for compliance issues related to NIH, SBP and Uniform Guidance policies and practices.
  • Provides recommendations to management for executing operational improvements.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field is preferred and other considerations may be made in lieu of experience.
  • Experience with federal and non-federal grant policies for sponsored research awards and administration is preferred.
  • Experience with financial management of high volume, large collaborative research projects and contracts is preferred.
  • Experience in financial forecasting, analysis, and budgeting in a complex operating environment is preferred.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks with a strong use of initiative and precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively with the highest degree of accuracy while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to recognize issues and resolve them independently.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to compose effective business correspondences.
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
  • Proven ability to adapt and become proficient with new systems in a short period of time
  • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills and the ability to compile, manipulate and optimize data.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to perform other tasks as assigned.
