Reports to the Director, Office of Sponsored Programs and is responsible for assisting Principal Investigators (PIs), Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Research Center Board, the Chief Administrative Officer, and the President and Scientific Director by providing proposal development assistance including funding searches, budget and proposal preparation and review, disseminating information on funding opportunities, supporting PIs and departmental research staff in oversight and monitoring of sponsored projects, and assisting the Director, Office of Sponsored Programs with other pre-award and post award support responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and advises PIs and Lurie Children’s staff on Federal, State and institutional policies, procedures, guidelines, and deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Develops budgets for proposals and provides pre-award proposal development support to researchers and physicians; interprets sponsor guidelines.
  • Identifies and disseminates funding source information to researchers and physicians which matches their interests.
  • Reviews terms and conditions of award documents from external sponsors for acceptance by Lurie Children’s Hospital.
  • Assists in managing proposal and award database; verifies proposal and award data is correct.
  • Prepares and disseminates reports on proposal and award activity.
  • Assists PIs and Lurie Children’s staff in the administration of internal and external requirements of grants and contracts.
  • Monitors compliance of PIs with various compliance committee actions and procedures. Advises Director, OSP of any non-compliance as they relate to compliance committees.
  • Assists PIs in managing external grants and contracts, planning and carrying out research programs and goals to assure compatibility with available resources.
  • Assists Director with preparing funded project financial analyses using Lawson accounting system. This includes assisting PIs and their staff with questions related to sponsored funds; Assists PIs and staff with financial analysis as needed.
  • Processes awards to Lurie Children’s Hospital Office of Sponsored Program Accounting for award set up.
  • Provides guidance to PIs, research staff and departmental staff in OSP processes and policies.
  • Assists the Director and Associate Director, Office of Sponsored Programs as needed.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required.
  • Job Related Experience: Two to five years administrative experience required in research administration, preferably in a scientific setting.
  •  
  • Skills/Knowledge: Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office software. Prefer familiarity with Cayuse Research Suite or
  • other web-based proposal and award systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time and multiple tasks, set priorities and manage deadlines in a pleasant and professional manner. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with external contacts, physicians, PIs and other internal personnel.
  • Experience with federal policies and systems related to grants administration.
  • Physical Demands: While most of the work is sedentary, specific duties will involve going to other campus buildings.
