Job Description
The Director serves in a chief administrative role by directing the specialized activities of Research Financial Services. Research Financial Service’s staff support research center and department faculty and staff by managing post-award administrative tasks including project financial setup, deposits, invoicing, letter of credit draws, accounts receivable, financial reports to sponsors, audit coordination, department monitoring report preparation, effort reporting and general compliance oversight. This position is responsible for the oversight of over $230 million in sponsored funding and manages numerous annual and periodic audits of these funds.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Provides daily oversight, training, and guidance to a team consisting of three senior staff accountants, eleven financial coordinators, a subrecipient analyst and an accounting specialist.
- Provides direction/guidance to Research Financial Services personnel, faculty/principal investigators, department administrators and other assigned campus representatives.
- Serves as the authorized post-award signatory official for the University and approves all sponsor invoices and financial reports.
- Monitors account balances, workload levels and report submission deadlines. Identifies areas of concerns, formulates solutions, and presents to the Assistant Vice President.
- Manages daily/weekly/monthly processes in the PeopleSoft Grants Module ensuring the proper posting of accounting entries into the general ledger.
- Utilizes their thorough understanding of the grants and contracts field to support the Assistant Vice President wholly with formulating policies and recommending policy revisions when University, State and Federal policies evolve or as events dictate.
- Other duties as assigned or necessary to ensure the responsibilities of the department are met.
Job Requirements
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or other related disciplines with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework, AND:
- 24-36 months of professional accounting experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
Skills:
- Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, University regulations and negotiated contract requirements to ensure compliance.
- Experience in the application of 2 CFR 200 and FAR regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Effective organizational skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively

Departmental Preferences:
- Master's degree in Accounting
- Detailed PeopleSoft experience
- Advanced Microsoft Suite experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credentials preferred
