The College of Sciences Research Office (COS Research Office) is an administrative unit of the College of Sciences. The primary purposes of the COS Research Office is to provide services to the College of Sciences by:

  • Assisting in grant and contract applications, processing and negotiations
  • Administration of post award accounting and grant oversight
  • Promotion, development and facilitation of research of the faculty in COS
  • Grant and contract applications, processing and negotiations: This includes thorough review and approval of all grants and contracts originating in COS, in whole or in part, prior to submission to the sponsors.

NC State and the COS Research Office invite applications for the position of Pre-Award Specialist.  The Pre-Award Specialist will provide pre-award support for the College of Sciences researchers. The Research Office must approve every proposal processed by the College of Sciences (COS) prior to submission. The person in this position has to assist faculty and support staff in the development of proposals-including budgets and justifications, and has to work with faculty and support staff to ensure all pre-award requirements have been met while adhering to all Federal, State, University and Sponsored Agency guidelines prior to proposal submission. Another key responsibility is serving as the liaison between COS and the University Office of Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance (SPARCS) and interacts with all other university offices that relate to research. This position works closely with SPARCS, Contracts & Grants (C&G), Office of Technology Commercialization and New Ventures (OTCNV), Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED), and the Sponsoring agencies during the pre-award and negotiation phases of the proposal process. This position also works closely with the COS College Research Office (CRO) post- award staff in transferring award information from pre-award to post-award.
