Post-Award Finance Manager

Overview

Summary:

The Finance and Grant Manager collaborates with and supports the Director managing the department’s day-to-day operations, supervising and training of staff and administering all financial aspects related to funded research.

The position will manage oversight of fiscal compliance to include financial regulations, implement, interpret, and communicate standard operational procedures and policies as they relate to funding sources, which safeguard the Institute from financial exposure while providing flexibility for researchers and faculty in the use of research funds.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Guides, supports and advices department in the design of fiscal projections. Implements strategies for sound portfolio management.
  • Oversees compliance by reviewing, interpreting, and communicating guidelines and restrictions to budgets and expenditures ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Examines, reviews, and approves account set ups and budgets, cost reimbursement invoices, journal entries, financial reports, effort allocations and progress reports.
  • Prepares a variety of internal fiscal reports including lab space utilization, summary of key indicators, F&A rebates, budget variance analysis and audit schedules.

 

Requiered Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related required and five years’ finance experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
  • Two years’ supervisor or lead experience preferred.
  • Experience with federal and non-federal policies for sponsored research awards and administration preferred.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or willingness to attain such a designation preferred.          

 

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Proficiency with financial operating systems, MS Suite and electronic submissions of fiscal files via eRA Commons, Payment Management System, ProposalCentral and FederalReporting.gov preferred.
  • Demonstrates experience making independent decisions, researching, analyzing, and solving fiscal problems.
  • Demonstrates experience organizing and prioritizing tasks, taking initiative, coordinating and assuming responsibility for projects including following through to completion and balancing the needs of multiple clients.
  • Demonstrates experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing and competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience working both independently and as an effective team member and leader with executives, faculty, and officials from external organizations.
  • Maintains up to date job knowledge, compliance regulations and other legal updates through educational opportunities, professional publications, and participation in professional organizations.
