The MIT Center for Real Estate seeks a financial and grants administrator to support its active research groups secure and manage research awards. The center has a diverse and complex portfolio of research funding and future needs. Will serve as part of the center’s administrative team and work with principal investigators (PIs) and executive heads to manage and execute the entire life-cycle process for complex pre- and post-award research and finance administration.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with funders, MIT Research Administration Services (RAS), and others to coordinate pre-award proposals and budgets for sponsored research projects through final submission of the proposal/agreement into MIT’s Kuali Coeus system
  • Serve as an authority on the interpretation of Institute and non-Institute procedures/policies
  • Understand federal regulations relative to funding sources
  • Oversee and mitigate risky transactions
  • Troubleshoot problems and ensure compliance with MIT policies and research and funding agreements
  • Understand prime award terms and conditions and how to flow them to subawardees
  • Conduct financial administration, review, and control for CRE labs’ sponsored funding and spending and set up new account structures and roles
  • Manage complex salary distributions and EDACCA certifications for all research accounts
  • Ensure accurate distribution of research staff salaries across grants, based on fluid effort distribution of researchers

Required Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in finance/accounting or related area in a complex research/administrative environment
  • Grants administration/management experience
  • Ability to analyze and resolve challenging contractual/proposal issues and take initiative to implement/improve established financial processes

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a higher education research environment.

 

Occasional evening or weekend work will be required during crunch times.
