Overview
Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator
The UVA Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) seek a Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator, reporting
to the Assistant Director of Pre-Award, to perform pre-award job responsibilities in response to sponsor
and University requirements.
OSP's mission is to provide leadership in research administration, support the research endeavors of
University faculty, ensure the responsible stewardship of research funding, and oversee the submission of
proposals and the negotiation and acceptance of awards by the University according to State, University
and sponsor regulations.
Senior Grants and Contracts Administrators possess a comprehensive understanding of grants and
contracts administration. A Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator will apply advanced skills,
experience and judgment to the review, submission and negotiation of a breadth of transactions (e.g.,
proposals, awards, agreements), some of which are complex and high-risk, on behalf of the University of
Virginia.
Responsibilities:
• Serves as a subject matter expert on research administration, ensuring compliance with state,
Federal and University rules, regulations, policies and practices (such as FAR, Uniform Guidance,
sponsor guidelines, etc.) and provides guidance to staff and faculty in understanding applicable
policies and obligations.
• Reviews research and sponsored programs related documents at proposal stage; identifies issues,
coordinates revisions and corrections with investigators and administrators (both internal and
external) and endorses on behalf of the University, as appropriate.
• Reviews and negotiates awards and agreements for conformity with University, federal, state,
and Sponsor policies; identifies, articulates and resolves relevant issues in award/agreement
review on a timely basis through contact and follow-up with University administrators, faculty,
sponsors or third parties as appropriate.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures governing
award management and non-financial post award research administration at UVA.
• Manages a complex portfolio while providing quality service and adhering to Sponsor deadlines.
• Supervises and develops rising professionals in the grants and contracts arena, advises a variety
of individuals at the University regarding best practices and recommended approaches in
research administration (e.g., financial considerations, internal and external communication, risk
management).
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of
degree.
Experience: Five years of grant and contract experience required.
Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.
Knowledge of governmental regulations (e.g. FAR, Uniform Guidance, FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR) preferred.
Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job
does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
