Director I Research Operations and Planning
Overview
The Department of Medicine within the School of Medicine (SOM) is excited to announce an opening for a Director I Research Operations and Planning. The ideal candidate will have experience managing staff and projects, performing pre- and post-award management activities, and assisting with clinical trials. Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Leadership:
1) Develop and implement departmental plans and priorities to meet short-and/or long-term research objectives and address any research and operational challenges
2) Manage staff responsible for grant submissions and reporting throughout the grant & and clinical trials lifecycle
3) Act as key department resource for research compliance questions/ issues
4) Oversee research-related accounts, revenues, and expenses, including management of salary allocations funded by grants
5) Partner with SOM and campus research staff to ensure a compliant research program focused on growth
6) Manage, monitor, and advise on need for space and equipment as it relates to research within the Department of Medicine
Pre-award:
1) Assist principal investigators (PI) with the development and submission of grant proposals, including budget development
2) Initiate and/ or approve account set up for new projects
Post-award:
1) Act as a liaison for department with the SOM, OSPA, sponsors, and principal investigator during projects
2) Monitor budgets and oversee reporting for effective management by PI and other department leaders
3) Coordinate and review project close-out
Clinical trials:
1) Ensure accurate, timely and compliant documentation related to the management of clinical trials including confidentiality disclosure agreements, IRB, contracts, sponsor budgets, coverage analysis, financial reports, and clinical research billing.
2) Partner with MU and SOM central research staff to negotiate and manage clinical research projects
