JOB SUMMARY

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Sponsored Program Services (OVPR SPS), invites applications for the senior role of Team Leader of Pre-Award Services (*Administrative Program Manager 3).  Reporting to the Director of Pre-Award and Faculty Services, the Team Leader will be accountable for the day-to-day management and supervision pre-award professional staff within the OVPR SPS Pre Award Service unit. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Lead manages pre-award staff to ensure the university review, endorsement, and successful submission of sponsored program proposals.  The Team Leader will manage and provide day-to-day guidance and supervision to Pre-Award Services staff and will have accountability for the quality of unit work, development of standards, scheduling and prioritization of assignments, and the evaluation of staff and unit output. A key component of the role is leadership and the strategic development of Pre-Award processes and procedures. The Team Leader will provide direct service in support of proposal submission to a limited portfolio of academic units. The Team Leader will review, authorize and submit University proposals and related documents.  This role will exercise university signatory authority in the submission of sponsored project proposals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience OR Master’s degree and 6 years of experience in a sponsored programs area, which must include a minimum of one year of direct supervision of professionals, including performance evaluations, staff development and recruitment.
  2. Knowledge of federal regulations, sponsor guidelines, and the Federal Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance (2C.F.R. Part 200), as they relate to sponsored program activity.
  3. Significant knowledge and experience in the development, review, and submission of large, complex sponsored research proposals with significant implications for financial, regulatory and compliance oversight.
  4. Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  5. Ability to work effectively with multiple priorities in a high-volume environment within tight timelines and deadline pressure.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and between teams, as well as constituents external to the centralized research administration office.
  7. Evidence of leadership and ability to evaluate and direct the work of others, with a commitment to mentoring, coaching, and developing a team.
  8. Considerable critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  9. Excellent computer skills, including spreadsheets and databases.
  10. Ability to develop and deliver technical training.
  11. Experience with electronic research administration systems (such as https://www.grants.gov/, Fastlane, eRA Commons).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  2. Three years of direct supervision of professionals, including performance evaluations, staff development and recruitment.
  3. Designation as a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or other relevant professional credentials.
  4. Experience working in a large institute of higher education/university setting.
  5. Familiarity with and working knowledge of InfoEd or other research management systems.
  6. Experience in the areas of lifecycle, post-award, and/or contracts research administration.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 35-hour per week, full-time, permanent position, with an excellent benefits package including medical and retirement, as well as employee and dependent tuition waivers at the University of Connecticut. In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, employees are currently telecommuting until further notice.
