Overview

The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) is seeking an Assistant Director to direct daily operations. OSP  manages a centralized grant administration office for publicly funded pre and post award activities at Salt Lake Community College. OSP’s portfolio includes a wide variety of projects and public funding sources. OSP offers a large variety of services including proposal development leadership and assistance, submission, award negotiation and acceptance, contract development, subrecipient monitoring assistance, project management support, modification development and submission, and close-out governance. OSP also develops and supports robust grant administration infrastructure to ensure a progressive research culture and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations applicable to sponsored projects.

This position will participate in building a robust and supportive environment for the scholarly, capacity building, and support service endeavors of faculty, staff, and students.

The Assistant Director (AD) will report to the Executive Director and support the daily project lifecycle activities of OSP, serving a wide variety of academic and non-academic units at SLCC. The AD will provide operational oversight to OSP, directing, mentoring, supporting, and training of OSP grant officers. The AD will develop and maintain strong relationships with individuals outside of OSP to facilitate and support sponsored project activity across the college, and align operations to OSP and college goals. The AD will work with all OSP team members to increase the College grant portfolio, improve visibility of OSP, and encourage a culture of strategic grant-seeking and effective grant management.

OSP is a deadline driven department. The AD must be able to provide consistent, reliable support for department deadlines.

Direct the daily operational activities of the department, specifically the day-to-day management of OSP’s portfolio and grant lifecycle work. Support the needs of OSP grant officers; this includes daily management and training, back-up support during absences and peaks in work volume, supporting junior level positions with their work, and, as needed, hiring and training new grant officers. This position will ensure that all project portfolio activities are completed accurately and in a timely and inclusive manner. This includes providing expert advice and direction on how work will be accomplished. This position will communicate regularly with the Executive Director on portfolio activities.

Build relationships with key internal partners and assist the Executive Director, as requested, in navigating external relationships. This position will identify and facilitate relationships and represent OSP, the Executive Director and the college in an articulate, inclusive and equitable way.

Lead or assist in the development and implementation of infrastructure for the effective and efficient delivery of OSP services. Current infrastructure includes standard operating procedures, training resources, sponsored projects policy, electronic grant administration database with user and administrative guides, reports, templates, the Research and Grant Development Program, and other items to support OSP operations. This includes helping team members develop and implement infrastructure. This also includes being informed on industry best practices and current events/regulations, and advising the Executive Director on new infrastructure or changes to existing infrastructure.

Represent OSP on college committees or to college groups; represent the Director through delegated authority to sign/submit proposals or accept/reject awards on behalf of the College.

Collaborate with other OSP team members and others to bring about OSP goals. This includes working with the Executive Director and other OSP positions to coordinate operations, such as but not limited to supporting and attending OSP team meetings and advising on the OSP budget: Attending division and college functions; communicating regularly with college partners; and other related activities.
