Research Compliance Education and Quality Assurance Specialist

Overview

The Division of Research Integrity and Compliance within the Office of Research establishes and
implements institutional policy and ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to
Research. The division also implements educational initiatives for all stakeholders engaged in research,
and performs quality improvement activities. The office seeks a skilled and dependable Research
Compliance Education and Quality Assurance Specialist. In this role, the Research Compliance
Education and Quality Assurance Specialist will develop, implement, and maintain education and quality
assurance programs across CUNY’s twenty-five (25) colleges covering all areas of research integrity and
compliance, including responsible conduct of research, human research protection program, animal
welfare, conflicts of interest, export control and sponsored research compliance. The position reports to
the University Director for Research Compliance.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- In collaboration and consultation with the members of the Research Compliance team within the
division, maintain educational training programs, coordinate educational content, and incorporate current
technology with the aim of raising awareness amongst, and training and educating all stakeholders in all
areas of research compliance and responsible conduct of research.
- Evaluate training initiatives using tests, questionnaires, and/or other evaluation methods to measure
the effectiveness of curricula, and use the evaluation outcomes to inform future educational initiatives.
- In collaboration and consultation with the members of the Research Compliance team within the Office
of Research, develop, implement and maintain quality assurance programs for all areas of research
compliance, which include but are not limited to monitoring of institutional oversight efforts and
compliance audits.
- Review and assess CUNY research compliance policies, procedures and operations in an effort to
identify areas in need of improvement, and implement ongoing improvements system-wide.
- Identify ways to improve the quality of research compliance services provided by the Office of
Research.
- Liaise with, and coordinate as appropriate, with the Research Foundation, Office of General Counsel
and CUNY College/School administration to support the Research Compliance functions as needed.
- Participate in site visits and audit teams.
- Expected to travel to the various CUNY campuses when required.

The preferred candidate will possess the following experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Advanced degree in a directly related discipline is strongly preferred, and may substitute for up to two
years of the required experience.
- Experience supporting systematic research compliance programs in a University setting preferred.
- Ability to analyze and apply regulations and policies related to research.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office products, as well as proficiency using
administrative, financial or academic programs, systems or databases.
- Detail oriented and accurate with strong analytical, research, evaluation, and writing skills.
- Proactive, flexible, and customer focused with strong interpersonal communication skills to work
effectively with diverse members of the university community and external constituents.
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, prioritize work,
manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Coordinates compliance activities related to College or Unit research programs.
- Ensures that campus research programs comply with federal regulations, state laws, and CUNY
policies and procedures
- Provides administrative support to committees and review boards overseeing research compliance
- Conducts outreach and education efforts to foster a culture of regulatory compliance
- Organizes and manages technology applications used to facilitate compliance and reporting
- Collects data and reports on compliance activities and outcomes
- Performs related duties as assigned.
