Decision Support Analyst

Overview

The Decision Support Analyst provides critical analytical support to help manage UK’s research enterprise. In the Office of the Vice President for Research, this position will inventory and understand existing data sources; organize data for accessibility; design standard processes for reporting, combining and utilizing data; manage data flows to assure timely availability; work with keepers of source data to assure accuracy. Using internal and external data, perform standard data analyses as required by the VPR Office and RIS; conduct ad-hoc analyses as requested by the VPR Office and Research Information Systems (RIS). Initiate new lines of inquiry based on knowledge of UK data and external information sources, take initiative to suggest new analyses or lines of inquiry that may bring new insights to the research enterprise; build prototype analyses to test these suggestions; incorporate new analyses into standard management processes and reports at the direction of the VPR Office and RIS. Assemble standard reports defined by the VPR/RIS using data and analytics derived from the research enterprise; design and develop ad-hoc reports to meet special information needs defined by the VPR Office and RIS; manage timelines and production processes to assure reports are timely and accurate. Work closely as a peer colleague with professionals in UKIT , RIS and other departmental units across the university to develop and implement analytical solutions and make recommendations to inform decision making through the use of data and data tools; assure that IS infrastructure can support the data needs and reporting needs identified by the VPR Office; provide input into new information systems under consideration from the perspective of analytics and reporting; contribute to creating new analytical capabilities within UK information systems. Work directly with RIS to assist in providing ad-hoc data analysis and reporting to the university. This includes leading ad-hoc projects for both Research support units including, OSPA, PDO, ORI, OTC, and Fiscal Affairs. Also provide ad-hoc support to college and departmental level requests as needed and with consultation with RIS staff and the VPR Office. Projects may include self-service reports, data portals, data extracts, complex dashboards, and recommendations for improving data quality.

Responsible for providing a variety of training workshops throughout the year to both support unit staff and members of the larger campus community, including ADRs, College Grant Officers, staff and faculty. Trainings related to our data tools, data portals, searches, etc. Develop training materials and deliver in-person workshops for Tableau and our various tools. This may include best practices in report design, use of data to make decisions, and tool development. Effectively work with a variety of stakeholders across campus.

As a member of the VPR Office and RIS there may be other duties as assigned to help assist staff with office functions. This might include event planning, website design, graphic design, newsletter development, and ad-hoc requests as assigned by the supervisor.

This position requires an advanced proficiency in the use of Tableau Desktop.
