Research Administrator, UNLV Office of Sponsored Programs

The award research administrator for grants and contracts is responsible for managing a portfolio of diverse university schools, departments, centers and institutes; this position interprets and implements sponsor guidelines, federal and state regulations, and university policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and reviewing awards and modifications,
  • Providing oversight of awards to minimize the university’s compliance risk,
  • Communicating with sponsoring agencies,
  • Assisting with developing and providing relevant training and presentations to faculty and staff,
  • Working with the Contract Manager and Financial Research Administrators to ensure award compliance
  • Answering faculty questions regarding their awards
  • Reviewing budget and administrative changes during the life cycle of awards,
  • Preparing documentation for the transfers of awards, sub recipients, and subawards,  
  • Assisting with the submission of administrative reports to a variety of sponsor portals.

The research administrator will continue to stay informed on new developments in the field of research administration, federal regulations, policies and procedures in order to serve as a subject matter expert to university faculty and staff. This position provides institutional review and approval and works with the financial research administrators to resolve problems related to post award financial administration.  


This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 3 years of experience in program and/or research administration. Demonstrated knowledge working with deadlines and under pressure and the ability to prioritize tasks. Certified Research Administrator credentials must be obtained within 2-4 years of employment, depending on level of experience to maintain position.  


Certified Research Administrator, more than three years of experience in preparation, processing, and negotiation of grant and contract proposals and awards. Sponsored programs and University experience. Takes independent approach to workload. Communicates effectively with diverse groups. Individual who pays attention to detail and is accustomed to a fast paced environment with many deadlines.


  • $64,000-$72,000 based on experience
