The Research Institute, a division of Marshfield Clinic, Inc., was founded in 1959. It is the largest private medical research institute in Wisconsin, with more than 30 Ph.D. and M.D. scientists and 200 other staff. In addition, approximately 150 physicians and other health care professionals throughout the Health System are engaged in medical research.

The Research Institute consists of research centers in clinical research, cancer research, epidemiology and population health, precision medicine and genetics, oral and systemic health, and agricultural safety and health. These centers are supported by Shared Research Support Offices: integrated research and development laboratory, office of research computing and analytics and office of research support services. Approximately 450 clinical trials and other research projects are active at any one time. Our investigators publish extensively in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals addressing a wide range of diseases and other health issues.

The Director of Office of Research Support Services (ORSS) has responsibility to lead, support and manage the centralized research support services within the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI).  This position is primarily responsible for providing effective leadership in the pre-award, award and post-award functions of grants and research related contracts sponsored by federal, state and local entities as well as private foundations and industry sponsors.  This position will also provide leadership and supervisory role to other research support services including institutional review board (IRB) administration, communication, scientific writing and others. The Director of ORSS is responsible for ensuring that MCRI research support services are being efficiently managed in accordance with Marshfield Clinic policy and legal and regulatory requirements. 

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration or related field.

  • Five years’ of progressively responsible experience of managing federal and non-federally funded grants and contracts.
  • Five years’ of progressively responsible management experience in healthcare/research, quality improvement strategies and activities for a healthcare/research organization to include grants management, contract development and negotiation, budget preparation and oversight, and research compliance. 
  • Experience in human resource management and direct supervision of staff.

Preferred/Optional: Master’s degree in business, health administration or related field.  Experience in a medical/scientific field desirable.
