Development Grant Writer (3 positions)

Job Description:

The Development Grant Writer will function under the direction of the Vice President of Research and the Director of Research Advancement and will implement the PVAMU Faculty Advancement Program for Research & Innovation by executing the program objectives and activities.

Responsibilities:

    • Provide individualized grantsmanship advice, coaching, and assistance to faculty, staff, and students writing grants.
    • Manage the entire proposal process, including developing strategic plans, drafting specific sections, editing and evaluating drafts, and coordinating proposal submission.
    • Prepare and edit text, figures and tables to increase impact and clarity.  Write and edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications and other program activities.
    • Proactively identify a diverse portfolio of funding sources.  Identify, recommend, and implement research capacity-building activities that may include the grant review process, seed grant programs, grantsmanship curricula, workshops, seminars, relevant executive-level research committee(s), developing new resources, etc.
    • Develop programs to improve the engagement of current faculty in research and writing grants.  Work cooperatively with the Division of Research and Title III program in organizing training for investigators in grant writing for external funding sources.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding

Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Master's degree
    • Three to five years of related experience in writing grant proposals
