JOB SUMMARY:

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) promotes a culture of compliance, research integrity, and high quality research within the University community. This is accomplished through consultation and educational programs for all researchers. The ORC facilitates University research, teaching, and public service programs by providing oversight and coordination of research compliance areas involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, recombinant DNA, hazardous agents and research misconduct.

Clemson University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Research Compliance. The Director of Research Compliance would be responsible for the administration and facilitation of research compliance matters that affect the research, academic and extension programs of the institution. Primary emphasis of this position would be to provide oversight of research involving human subjects (IRB); the use of vertebrate animals in research, teaching, and testing (IACUC); research involving hazardous and potentially hazardous agents (IBC); research ethics and related issues.

The director would also serve as the federal mandated Research Integrity Officer and oversees the University's Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training program.

JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Manage all aspects of the regulatory activities of the Office of Research Compliance including the supervision and training of staff supporting the federally mandated research compliance committees (e.g. Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research, Institutional Biosafety Committee).

20% - Essential - Plan, implement and manage federally mandated education and training programs for all university faculty, staff and students involved in research activities related to responsible conduct of research, human subject research protection, animal welfare and biosafety. Planning and conducting new faculty and graduate student orientation programs relative to all scientific integrity and compliance requirements. Planning and conducting education and training programs for all members of research compliance committees.

20% - Essential - Monitor and interpret federal research regulations and policies and develop modifications of existing institutional policies to ensure continuing compliance with federal requirements. Serves as research compliance liaison to communicate with and inform other university administrators of current and impending federal regulations and policies affecting research and teaching activities involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, recombinant DNA, and hazardous agents.

15% - Essential - Serves as liaison to federal oversight agencies and accreditation bodies in matters related to research compliance and scientific integrity.

15% - Essential - Serves as Research Integrity Officer overseeing and managing inquires and investigations resulting from allegations of research misconduct.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Master's Degree and five (5) plus years experience in research compliance administration

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with accreditation processes and standards (i.e. AAALAC)

Develops Department Budgets - Responsible for developing one or more departmental budget(s). Estimated amount of budgetary responsibility in dollar amount must be added.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; compensation to be commensurate with experience.
