Research Compliance Officer

Overview

Job Summary

Direct the daily and long-range operations of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) regarding compliance management of grants, contracts, and campus research.

50% Institutional Review Board (IRB) for hte Protection of Human Subjects in Research

1. Direct and oversee the administrative functions provided by ORSP to the IRB.
2. Advice the Director and Associate Vice Chancellor, staff, faculty and students on matters pertaining to the IRB.
3. Work with the University System General Counsel as necessary to resolve specific issues related to the IRB.
4. Serve as administrator and non-voting member of the IRB and as advisor on all matters regarding regulations.
5. Provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff in complying with human subject regulations.
6. Keep up to date of federal and state legislation and compliance requirements and recommend policy changes and administrative action in regards to human subjects research.
7. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure institutional compliance with all applicable federal, state, and agency regulations related to human subjects research.
8. Direct review of all grant award and contracts to ensure human subject research compliance with all applicable federal and funding source regulations, state laws, and institutional policies and procedures, and recommends acceptance or modification.

10%     Research related Export Controls

1. Direct and oversee the administrative functions provided by ORSP concerning Export Controls.
2. Meet with faculty who will be traveling internationally to complete campus research to assess research concerns.
3. Assess research that involves international collaboration partners for export concerns.
4. Provide guidance, assistance, and training to faculty and staff to comply with Export Controls.

10%     Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

1. Direct and oversee the administrative functions provided by ORSP to the IACUC.
2. Complete all grant compliance reports mandated by federal regulations and recommend approvals to the Director.
3. Advise the Director and Associate Vice Chancellor, ORSP staff, faculty and students on all matters pertaining to the IACUC.
4. Work with the University System General Counsel as necessary to resolve specific issues related to award documents and the IACUC.
5. Serve as the administrator and non-voting member of the IACUC and as advisor on all matters regarding regulations.
6. Interfaces with federal and state agency officials to ensure compliance.
7. Provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff in complying with animal subject regulations.

20%     Other Research Compliance Policies and Procedures

1. Interface with federal and state agency officials to ensure compliance.
2. Provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff in complying with human subject regulations, responsible conduct of research and conflict of interest.
3. Keep up to date of federal and state legislation and compliance requirements and recommend policy changes and administrative action.
4. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure institutional compliance with all applicable federal, state, and agency regulations.
5. Complete all grant compliance reports, including Research Misconduct, mandated by federal granting agencies and recommend approval to the Director.
6. Direct the review of all grant award and contracts to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and funding source regulations, state laws, and institutional policies and procedures, and recommends acceptance or modification

5%       Engage in professional development

1. Attend conference and training opportunities to be up to date on federal and state legislation and compliance requirements.

5%       Other duties as assigned
