Grants and Contracts Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Grants and Contracts Manager

Job Class: Exempt

Reports To:  Director of Sponsored Programs

Summary:

The Grants and Contracts Manager is responsible for the full pre- and post-award grants management process including preparation, submission, and management of a portfolio of applications and awards from external funding sources, including Federal, State, voluntary health agencies and foundations.  This person also contributes to and supports Sponsored Programs team process improvement and management initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 3+ years of experience in an independent role managing federal grants.
  • Database experience and knowledge of various electronic grant submission systems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills dealing with both technical and professional staff in a collegial setting.
  • Strong familiarity with federal rules, regulations and standards and the ability to effectively communicate this information to our investigators and staff.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity.
  • Must have high attention to detail and strong writing skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to multi-task and organize work-load relative to deadlines in a highly detailed position.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembles and submits a large volume and variety of grant proposals.
  • Conducts a quality control review of all proposals before submission to ensure each application meets sponsor proposal requirements and SIBCR/VA policy requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of the submission and reporting requirements, including the electronic submission process, for various federal and non-federal funding agencies.
  • Negotiates grants and contract terms and resolves issues with a high degree of customer service.
  • Performs post-award management duties for a portfolio of diverse projects, overseeing the administrative aspects of reporting and reconciliation, subawarding, monitoring project bugets and status, and prior approval requirements.
  • Liaises frequently with grant sponsors and serves in a pivotal role to provide guidance on the various sponsor rules and regulations to our investigators and staff.
  • Researches federal statutes and regulations to ensure the institute remains in compliance with laws and government policies.
  • Assists as needed with inter-agency reporting such as cross-institute effort reporting, FSRS reporting, federal regulatory assurance registration, clinicaltrials,gov, etc.
  • Interacts collegially with the SIBCR Human Resources and Accounting for grants and contracts management purposes.
  • Analyzes quality assurance review results to identify trends/opportunities for improvement in processes, tools, and communication to further enhance the service provided to our stakeholders.
  • Work with the Director of Sponsored Programs to implement process improvements.
