The American Federation for Aging Research, (AFAR), www.afar.org is a leading New York based national non-profit organization that supports healthy aging through biomedical research.  AFAR was founded in 1981 to fund and nurture talented scientists and physicians, and to encourage them to pursue lifelong careers in research focused on aging processes and age-related diseases.  The important work of AFAR supports leads to a better understanding of the aging process and to improvements in the health of all Americans as they age.

 

AFAR is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time administrative position of Grant Programs Associate to provide financial, administrative and support services to designated Grant program staff, awardees, Principal Investigators, contractors and travel participants for the organization’s portfolio of grant programs.  This individual will have a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in the management of Federal grants in a non-profit or university setting, with a working knowledge of NIH/NIA and other federal, state, and foundation grant regulations and requirements.  This role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented individual interested in working in the field of aging research at a major national not-for-profit organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand the administrative, budgetary and financial compliance regulations associated with NIH/NIA federally funded grant awards and assist in implementation of same
  • Ability to collaborate with grant program staff and PIs
  • Review check requests and reimbursements for errors and missing documentation
  • Assist in tracking of time sheets
  • Schedule, organize and provide administrative support for operational and committee meetings associated with the awards
  • Data entry

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Administration or related field
  • 3+ years of related experience with NIH/NIA grants in a university or health-related non-profit organization
  • Familiarity with Sesame database software or similar product a plus
  • Budget management and/or finance related experience a plus
  • Ability to independently prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational  and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
