COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

The University of Florida is conducting a search for a Research Regulatory Analyst (Compliance Specialist) in the Office of Research’s Division of Research Compliance and Global Support (DRCGS). The division is responsible for developing and implementing research compliance programs that promote ethical and legally compliant research practices throughout UF’s research enterprise.  The University of Florida, a public land-grant institution, is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), located on a 2,000-acre campus in Gainesville, Florida. Following the creation of performance standards by the Florida state legislature in 2013, the Florida Board of Governors designated the University of Florida as one of the two “preeminent universities” among the 12 universities of the State University System of Florida.  It is the third-largest Florida university by student population and is the eighth-largest single-campus university in the United States, with more than 54,000 students. The University of Florida is home to 16 academic colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. Responsibilities of the Research Regulatory Analyst/Compliance Specialist

  • Export Control Program
    • Understand and remain up-to-date with UF, state, and federal export control and sanctions laws, regulations, and policies.
    • Review UF faculty and staff activities for compliance with UF, state, and federal export control requirements (activities for review include: proposals, grants, and contracts; material transfer agreements; non-disclosure agreements; international travel; foreign visitors; invention disclosures; etc.).
    • Serve as a subject-matter expert and liaison between DRCGS, other Office of Research units, and UF colleges and departments for export control issues.
    • Support exports of UF information or items outside of the U.S.
    • Assist the Assistant Director of Export control with various tasks, including export control classifications, program recordkeeping, tracking program metrics, export control training, technology control plan development, and filing federal Electronic Export Information paperwork.
  • Global Compliance Program
    • Understand and maintain familiarity with federal, state, and UF regulations and policies governing international activities, including fiscal, travel, procurement, human resources, and other relevant policies.
    • Review UF faculty and staff international activities for compliance with UF, state, and federal requirements.
    • Assist with international sponsored research project planning, risk assessment, and management.
    • Assist with vetting potential foreign collaborators.
  • General Research Compliance
    • Participate in the Division’s special projects, as assigned.
    • Support research compliance investigations.
    • Draft policy, guidance, and responsive correspondence supporting research compliance programs.

Qualities and Qualifications

Minimal qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate and two years of experience in appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and OFAC sanctions and embargoes.
  • Experience understanding complex regulations and applying them in an academic setting.
  • Experience working with university faculty and staff.
  • Research administration or compliance experience in an academic setting.
