Director, Grants Administration

Overview

Section I:  Scope

The Grants Administrator will work with the Manhattan College community to develop, implement and evaluate long-range and annual grant funding plans that align with the College’s strategic vision and plan as articulated in Renewing the Promise: Manhattan College 2026. S/he will work with groups on campus to identify research and other projects for which funding is desired and to develop strategies to obtain funding. This candidate will support preparation and submission of accurate and compliant funding proposals to federal and non-federal granting agencies; provide guidance for administrators, faculty, and staff in the application process for funding; and will manage all aspects of the grants process from pre-award to project closeout. This position will begin July 1, 2020.

Section II:  Responsibilities

Reports to:  Associate Provost

Supervises:  Grants Coordinator

Responsibilities:  

• Identify potential grant sources from federal, state and local agencies, companies and foundations to pursue grant funds. Develop and sustain external contacts to facilitate funding opportunities. Identify sources of extramural funding for faculty research, training, and other individual professional development projects. In addition, identify sources of funding for departmental, School-based, multi-School, and College-wide programs, and multi-institution projects. 
• Review funding opportunities and disseminate information to campus community. Identify and cultivate relationships with faculty and administrators to encourage eligible applicants to apply for grant funding. Work closely with applicants to coordinate proposal planning process, budgets, submissions, and post-award management. 
• Coordinate gathering of institutional data for grant submissions; coordinate external partnerships; and coordinate with other institutions regarding joint efforts for funding.
• Manage Citi trainings and coordinate Responsible Conduct of Research trainings for faculty, administrators and students; host grant writing sessions and workshops at faculty development events.
• Ensure all grant submissions adhere to relevant federal, state, and local regulations, and maintain accurate systems and procedures. Register for and be familiar with all online submission processes and any changes to policies or processes (e.g. NSF FastLane, grants.gov, etc). Serve as the college’s liaison with all public sector grant funding agencies. Remain current with regulatory and other changes impacting sponsored projects administration at colleges and universities. Attend relevant conferences (e.g NCURA, SRA, etc.). Develop and update policies for sponsored projects in line with regulations.
• Manage all post-award contract items, including certifications, MWBE forms, and signatures. 
• Coordinate faculty-led IRB, including management of files.
• Work with the Controller’s Grants Accountant, establish Funds/Orgs for funded projects and ensure that grant funds are tracked and reporting requirements met. Closeout projects as required by sponsors including working with faculty to ensure filing of necessary reports.
• In coordination with the College’s Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, work with constituents to apply for grants from the private sector including foundations and corporations.
• Provide an annual report on sponsored project activity; respond to requests for information and data regarding grant activity and sponsored projects. 
• Manage all grant transfers for new faculty. 
• Represent Manhattan College at conferences and other professional association meetings. 
• Manage Grants Coordinator’s daily activities.

 
Section III:  Qualifications

Qualifications
 Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience in higher education sponsored projects, contracts, cooperative agreements and grants administration with a proven track record of success. Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Affairs or a closely related field preferred.
 Broad working knowledge of federal grant funding policies, submissions, pre-award and post-award management. CRA preferred. 
 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners. Strong customer service skills and ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders. 
 Must have excellent written communication skills, editing and proofreading skills, and the ability to communicate complex guidelines and regulations to a variety of constituents.  
 Must be deadline-oriented and able to juggle multiple priorities. 
 Strong commitment to the mission of the college.
